On Tuesday, August 08, 2006, the Patriarchal Vicar Bishop Ghattas and Engineer Samer LAHAM, Director of Ecumenical Relations at the Patriarchate, called for a meeting with Damascus and Countryside clergy members, sisterhood and youth bodies members, at the Patriarchate,

in order to  coordinate the distribution of assistance coming from both Solidarity Organization (80 tons of aids), (Church of Greece),  and the Church of Cyprus, on two vessels arriving to Lattakia Port, by mid-august, 2006, in addition to organizing methods of distributing the financial contribution received from the IOCC.

Three priorities were defined:

1-      undertaking a financial campaign on a popular scale to assist affected dioceses, especially in Akkar and South Lebanon regions.

2-       Preparing a pioneer project (i.e. collecting meals and clothes)  following visits to the places where displaced Lebanese citizens are hosted, in order to find out about their special needs.

3-      Mobilizing the personnel and staff needed to achieve the tasks so far determined.
