His Beatitude Christodoulos in the Patriarchate

On August 19, His Beatitude Christodoulos, Archbishop of Athens and All the Greece visited the Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch and All the East, in a kind gesture reiterating the solidarity and sympathy of the  Church of Greece towards the suffering of the Lebanese people from the Israeli aggression on Lebanon.

 This visit came following the arrival of a Greek cargo,  carrying (80) tons of humanitarian aid composed of food, medical care and different material needed for the relief of the victims of war and displaced people in Lebanon, and financed by “Solidarity” organization, an Ngo working under the patronage of the Greek Church.

 The Greek delegation accompanying Archbishop Christodoulos included Metropolitans Alexios and Chrisostomous, a number of the Greek church clergy, Her Excellency Mrs. Zagoriano, the new Ambassador of Greece in Damascus, Mr. Forlimadis, Director of “Solidarity” organization, and members of Greek media. The delegation was received at Damascus Airport by Bishop Louka, the Patriarchal assistant, members of the patriarchate clergy, Greek and Cypriot diplomatic  figures, and eng. Samer Laham, Head of the Ecumenical Relations and Development Dept. at the Patriarchate. At the Patriarchate, H.B. Patriarch Ignatius warmly welcomed his esteemed guests, words of sincere affection and sympathy were exchanged.. Archbishop Christodoulos said: ” Our gift is an expression of solidarity between our churches and between our hearts.. we pray the Almighty Lord for Peace in this region, we pray Him to grant you the force for achieving the tasks you are assuming..”

In return, Patriarch Ignatius  expressed his deep gratitude and appreciation of the valuable aid presented by the Greek Church. Archbishop Christodoulos presented the pastoral scepter as a gift to Patriarch Ignatius.

Following the lunch invitation in honor of the esteemed guests, the visiting delegation paid visit to the Mehsenieh School and to the  Red Crescent commission, and met with persons responsible for rooting the aid material to destination. Speeches were exchanged, stressing on deep appreciation for the valuable symbols of Love and Caring.
